Malteser Tiffin can be likened to this Biscoff Rocky Road, which is another no-bake treat filled with small chunks of biscuit and plenty of chocolate. Both of these no-bake traybakes are a great option for bake-sales when you don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen.
We have changed things up a little to really bring out the malt flavour, by adding Malted Milk biscuits where you would usually find Digestives. This is a Malteser tray bake recipe after all!
Why You’ll Love This Malteser Traybake Recipe
- No-Bake – There’s no need to put these Maltesers tiffin bars in the oven, you only need to set them in the fridge.
- Make With Kids – You can get children involved in the kitchen with this easy traybake recipe. Just be sure to do the melting yourself.
- Can be frozen – You can freeze the Malteser slices for up to 2 months.
Equipment Needed
- Rolling Pin – You can use a rolling pin and a zip lock bag or freezer bag to crush the Maltesers and the biscuits into small pieces. Alternatively, you can use a food process in short bursts. However, be careful when using a food processor that you don’t turn everything into fine crumbs. You want to create small bite size pieces for texture.
- 20x20cm (8×8 inch) Square Baking Tin – to set the mixture in.
- Non-Stick Parchment Paper or greaseproof paper – For lining the tin.
- A spatula or wooden spoon – To mix the ingredients and to press the mixture into the tin.
- A Saucepan, Heat-proof Bowl or Microwave Bowl – Depending on how you wish to melt the ingredients.
Ingredients
- Maltesers – Of course, with this being a Maltesers Tray Bake the clue is in the name. If you are in the USA and cannot find Maltesers, you can swap them out for American Whoppers. You can even switch it up and use some White chocolate Maltesers too.
- Milk, Dark and White Chocolate – To make this the most chocolatey treat we can, we have added three different kinds of chocolate. The white chocolate is mostly for decoration, however, so you can leave it out if you’d prefer.
- Malted Milk Biscuits – To give our Tiffin the most Malt flavour, we are using these biscuits. You can use Digestives, graham crackers or rich tea biscuits in their place, if you wish.
- Raisins – To keep it more traditional, we have added in Raisins to the mix. You can add some glace cherries too if you wish.
- Butter – Use unsalted Butter in this recipe.
- Golden Syrup – If you cannot find golden syrup, honey or corn syrup can make a suitable substitute (although the flavour might change a little). Or you can even try making your own golden syrup too.
What is Chocolate Tiffin?
Tiffin originates in the UK. It is a sweet chocolate treat that is usually served in slices, squares or bars after being prepared in a tin.
Tiffin does not require baking, only the melting of the chocolate, butter and syrup. The added ingredients are then stirred in and the mixture is packed into a tin and left to set in the fridge before being sliced up.
Classic Tiffin usually contains a mixture of biscuits (often Digestives), as well as other added ingredients, including raisins and cherries. However, there are many variations to find on the original recipe nowadays.
In our Tiffin recipe, we have included Maltesers and Malted Milk biscuits in place of Digestive biscuits and omitted the cherries.
